North Carolina Bar Association

Rod was a founding member of the NCBA's Antitrust and Trade Regulation Law Section in the 1980s, and has been a member of the section's Executive Council continuously since that time. He was Chair of the section in 1991-92.

The Antitrust and Trade Regulation Law Section organizes and sponsors educational seminars in the field (click here to see the ones Rod has participated in, and here to review some of his papers), promotes pro bono service, facilitates information exchange with regulators in the antitrust field, and advocates legislative reform. Rod was active in helping to draft and pass legislation sponsored by the section in 1995 which overhauled North Carolina's antitrust laws, eliminating a number of antiquated trade restraints and enacting an anti-monopoly provision modeled on federal law.

Julia is active in the Intellectual Property Section, which examines copyright, patent and trademark law issues. The section sponsors CLE programs and services, provides members with a substantive newsletter, and helps mold the association's legislative agenda for presentation to the N.C. General Assembly. Julia currently serves on the Trademark, Trade Secret and Copyright Committee.
